Gryffindor House Crest Halloween Costume Iron-On Patch

The first order this shop ever shipped from mrpatches.net was a Gryffindor crest, which is as good a reason as any to start here. This is a single embroidered house crest patch, roughly 3.5 by 4 inches, with iron-on backing and enough stitch density that the crest still reads clearly from across a room.

For scale: a little wider than a credit card and close to twice as tall. That size sits well on the left chest of a jacket, the front panel of a backpack, or the front of a robe — big enough to be the point of the garment rather than a detail lost on it.

Fabrics to sew instead

Iron-on adhesive needs heat the fabric can survive. Sew rather than press on nylon, waterproof or coated shells, leather and faux leather, vinyl, anything with a printed graphic underneath, and most synthetic costume satin — these scorch, melt, or simply refuse to bond. Polyester can work on a lower setting with a pressing cloth, but test an inside seam first.

Applying it

Press the garment flat first so the crest lands on a smooth surface. Position it, cover with a thin cotton cloth, and apply firm steady pressure with a dry iron — no steam. Let it cool completely before moving the garment; the bond sets as it cools, not while it is hot. On anything that goes through the wash weekly, run a stitch around the border as well. The adhesive holds the patch in place; the stitch is what keeps it there.

Washing

Turn the garment inside out, wash cold on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low or hang to dry. No bleach, no fabric softener. Never iron directly over the face of the patch — press from the reverse if you need to.
