Where the gold border earns its place

On dark fabric — navy, black, olive, dark denim — a plain flag patch can lose its edge against the background. The gold outline solves that. Fabrics that take the adhesive

Cotton, cotton blends, denim and cotton canvas all bond properly. Heavy cotton and denim are the most forgiving: they hold heat evenly and the patch does not shift while you press.

Fabrics to sew instead

Uniforms are frequently the problem. Many are polyester or a poly blend, some are coated, and both scorch or glaze under a hot iron. Sew those. The same goes for nylon, leather, faux leather, vinyl, and anything with a printed graphic beneath. If the garment is an actual uniform, sewing is the right answer for durability regardless of fabric — and check your organisation's placement rules before you attach anything permanently.

Applying it

Iron the area flat, position the flag, cover with a thin cotton cloth, and press with firm steady dry heat. Let it cool all the way down before moving the garment. Stitch the border on anything worn and washed regularly.

Care

Inside out, cold, gentle cycle, tumble low or hang dry. No bleach — it will dull the gold before it touches anything else. Iron from the reverse only.
