Place the patch, cover it with a thin cloth, press firmly with heat, then let it cool before handling. For heavy wear, bags, or textured fabric, add a few stitches around the edge.

Two Mexico flag patches, about 3.5 by 2.5 inches each. Green, white and red with the eagle and serpent at the centre, one of the most detailed national emblems there is, and the reason this patch is sized the way it is. Shrink it and the emblem stops being readable.

Fabrics that take the adhesive

Cotton, cotton blends, denim and cotton canvas. Denim is the most forgiving surface.

Fabrics that need a needle

Nylon and polyester bags, coated or waterproof outerwear, leather, faux leather and vinyl. Football shirts are performance polyester and will glaze permanently under an iron, so sew, or put the patch somewhere else.

Applying both

Press the area flat and position the first patch under a thin cotton cloth. Press with a dry iron, no steam, for 30 to 45 seconds, then 30 to 45 seconds from the back, and let it cool completely before the second goes down. Measure from a seam rather than eyeballing if the two need to line up.

Care

Inside out, cold, gentle cycle, low tumble or hang. No bleach, no fabric softener. Iron from the reverse only.
