The Colorado state flag, embroidered at about 3.5 by 2.5 inches: blue, white and blue bands with a red C wrapped around a gold disc. It is widely reckoned one of the best-designed state flags in the country, and it is the single easiest one to recognise at a distance — which makes it a genuinely good small patch.
The one that survives shrinking
Most state flags are a seal on a blue field, and seals turn to mush below about four inches. Colorado has no seal. Three bands, one letter, one disc — the whole design is legible at 3.5 inches and would still be legible smaller.
Where it bonds
Cotton, cotton blends, denim and cotton canvas. Denim jackets and cotton totes are the easiest surfaces.
Where to sew
Nylon and polyester shells, coated or waterproof outerwear, leather, faux leather and vinyl. Technical outdoor gear is nylon almost without exception — sew, do not press.
Application
Press the area flat, position the patch, cover it with a thin cotton cloth, and apply firm dry heat with steady pressure. Let it cool fully. Stitch the border on packs and outerwear.
Care
Inside out, cold, gentle, tumble low or hang. No bleach, no fabric softener. Press from the reverse only.
Questions we get
Will it read from a distance? Better than any other state flag we stock.
Can it go on a hiking pack? Sewn only — packs are nylon.
