Two Canada flag patches, about 3.5 by 2.5 inches each. There is a long-running convention among Canadian travellers of putting the maple leaf on the pack before leaving the country, and a pair is what that convention actually calls for — one on the daypack you carry, one on the checked bag you do not.
Why two
Most people who buy one flag patch want a second within a year, usually for a different bag. Buying the pair up front removes that problem and also makes symmetrical placement possible: both sleeves of a jacket, both faces of a duffel, or a jacket and a cap that match.
Fabrics that take it
Cotton, cotton blends, denim and cotton canvas all bond properly. Cotton canvas totes and denim jackets are the easiest surfaces of all.
Fabrics to sew
Almost every travel pack is nylon, and nylon marks or melts under an iron before the adhesive activates. Sew those. Same for coated and waterproof shells, leather, faux leather and vinyl. Polyester needs a cooler setting, a pressing cloth and a test on a hidden seam.
Applying both
One at a time, and measure rather than eyeball. Pick a fixed reference — a shoulder seam, a cuff, a zip — and measure the same distance on each side. Press the first with firm dry heat under a thin cotton cloth, let it cool completely, then place the second.

Inside out, cold, gentle cycle, low tumble or hang. No bleach, no fabric softener.
